The Importance of Communication
It’s a New Year, but we still have the same old problems. One of them being communication. As a writer, I think it is extremely important that all your written communication to client or potential clients be….good. Emails, forum posts that the client will see, IMs, PMs, everything needs to be professional and show that you are a writer.

During the little experiment I tried, I seemed to have attracted a large number of craptastic faux-writers who will NOT STOP IMing and PMing me. Holy crap. These folks IM me asking for work like this:

hw r u
f
u have wrk..
f
you have seo work..

Seriously? I mean, come on. You are asking me to trust you. To give you my money. Can you at least respect me enough to show some grasp of the gravity of the process? While the example above is an extreme example, I think it does give us all the chance to look at our own work and whether or not our communication could use a pick me up:)

On another note, I am in the process of creating a community for freelance writers. I’ll be transitioning this blog to that site within the next few days. Eventually, this blog will be no more and Freelance Writerville will be my new home. I’ll be accepting and paying for guest post submissions and will concentrate more on the instructional side of getting gigs, content sites like Demand and Textbroker versus private clients, technique, voice, etc. I’m working on giving the site a voice that you may not see on other sites. As a community, we will produce eBooks, blog posts, and more.

Stay tuned for updates.
