Demand Studios- where does it fit now?
As many of you know, Demand Studios recently reduced the rate they pay for their “User Suggested” titles. This was a huge blow to my personal economy. I love writing for Demand Studios. I enjoy the format, like the pay rate, and enjoyed developing my own titles.
f
I understand the reasons for the change in their pricing policy, and I certainly don’t begrudge them their right to change pricing policies in order to maximize their profits. I get that. It does, however, make me think about what I want their role to be in my business.
f
Since writers will now only receive $15 payments for the Demand Studios suggested titles, I will limit myself to writing only their suggested titles. I assume this is what they want. Unfortunately by sticking with their suggested titles I am forced to write about the following topics:
f
1. Chinese Knife Fighting
2. Blacksmithing
3. Robot, automobile and backyard jet plane building
4. Post workout rectal bleeding
f
I will still write for them, but luckily I have many back up gigs. Bright Hub-which pays slightly less (but they pay page view and link bonuses)- is a gig that gives you popular search terms for subjects and asks you to develop your articles around them. This makes Bright Hub very flexible and fun to write for. I am approved for the Personal Finance, Small Business and Accounting & Business Finance channels- 3 subjects I know oodles about, so I’m pretty comfy there.
f
Textbroker pays extremely well and offers a ton of different subjects to write about. When you are a level 5 writer with Textbroker, you get paid more per word than you do with Demand Studios, which makes the Textbroker client suggested titles definitely more appealing.
f
So, I guess my point is that I’ll be doing fewer Demand Studios articles. Way fewer.

Post workout rectal bleeding? Who are these people?

The DS titles are ridiculous, at best. $15 to write about “How Does A Paper Shredder Work?”….I’ll take it because it’s cake, but it’s definitely not challenging (unless you count trying to bulk it up to the normal word count).
I like the front side better, writing for eHow, and getting to choose what I want to say, and how to say it without being nitpicked, however, being otherwise gainfully employed, I’m sticking with those 15-Buckers as well.
I’d love to hear more about your Textbroker experiences. I tried it for a month, got bumped up to a 4star rating after a week or so, but I don’t know….so maybe some more info on someone making the good cash there is in order?
I’m thinking about Bright Hub, as well, so it’s good to hear someone’s input about the site.
Thanks for sharing all this info! Love your tagline!!
jodapoet- tell me about it. If my ass starts bleeding after I work out, the internet is probably not who I will turn to
Hey miragi, Direct orders are the way to go. I always email clients after they accept an article and I remind them that I can do direct orders, and that they already know how awesome I am, so don’t they wanna go ‘head and get me to write an order direct???:)
Hey Katy….I dunno about the whole EHow thing. I’ve already mentioned circle jerk syndrome and PPV jobs always seem to be PPV havens.
I live in the UK so unfortunately can’t join Demand Studios or Textbroker.
Ah well…
I think I read about a site called Essays.PH no, wait that’s for the Philippines. I know I’ve read about UK sites similar to Textbroker and Demand. Maybe I’ll do a post on that.
Hi mspennylane, I’ll try to work on a UK post.
Hi April! Level 5 writers get .05 per word. Most of your money will come from direct orders, which pay whatever your direct rate is. I advise offering a direct rate a little lower than .05 per word just to give them some added incentive:)
I have been writing for Textbroker for about 3-4 months and let me tell you, if you can say anything about a certain topic, you are good to go.
I was classed at a level 3 when I started. As long as you take on a few assignments a day it does start to add up.
At first I felt demoralized at the fact that I would only earn .01 or what ever a word. Then I got to thinking about it. It’s better than nothing. Publishers are so darn picky, its not even funny, people with real estate companies, need someone to add a touch of class to their sites. Okay, so I write some descriptions, make a couple of dollars. Can’t complain its money that I didn’t have before.
Right now, given the economy, count yourself lucky that you are getting paid for something. Who knows what will happen later on.
I have tried AC, Helium, Constant Content, and Textbroker.
A quick rundown in 2 months at Helium I made aprox 140 but that was due to competeting in very stiff contests and a total crapshoot for reliable income.
AC I make aprox 50 easy a month last two months, however, that is growing as I’m growing on the site and making friends.
EHoW I have made a whopping 8.00 in two months with.
Textbroker I have earned 40.00 in less than a week of effort…
now that is time at sites…consider I have given Helium the most hours worked because I always wind up doing extensive research for contests or marketplace entries.
AC medium amount of hours worked…depends if I transfer over titles from Helium or do fresh C4C.
Ehow articles I can type out one of those in less than five minutes with 15 articles currently posted.
Textbroker - even for the titles requiring some research I can type out one of those in less than 15 minutes normally. Which means for the least amount of effort, Textbroker is the highest earner IF you are just starting out with content writing.
I still have an app in with About and Demand Studio’s to give them a whirl. Busika didn’t impress me much so I never posted anything after opening an account…..just my two cents on the comparison earnings..However, with AC my articles will generate monthly revenue over and over if I never publish anything else. Textbroker material is DEAD after it’s accepted by publishers. So the 3 or 4 it makes is IT. Most of the content is so specific I don’t see a market for those articles elsewhere anyway.
