More paving

A couple more tips (to continue yesterday’s blog) to help you get your life in shape and ready for the bumpy road of freelancing.

f

1. Cut your Starbucks habit down. If it’s not Starbucks, then it’s some other decadent treat that you have a little too often and can cut out. I cut my Buckey-Bucks trips down to once a week by investing in a coffee press. I bought a bean grinder and invest in my fave Buckey-Bucks brew- Komodo. Komodo runs about $12 and one bag lasts me 2 weeks. I also bought a $3 box of Chai tea. I make them in my coffee press, and am happy and saving about $300 more a year.

2. Stop talking. On your cell phone, that is. Let me preface by saying, I hate the phone. I dislike talking on the phone so strongly that friends and family are only allowed to contact me by email.  It annoys them, but it works for me. You never know when I may be writing or working on homework, and phone calls derail my train of thought. This makes the cell phone thing easy for me. I have a prepaid phone from Virgin Mobile. I’ve had this phone for more than 5 years, and I spend about $10 per month on it.

I feel the same way about the phone. If I had a dime for everyone that asks me why don’t you ever answer your phone I’d be a millionaire now. Those closest to me know it and I will answer for them but other than that it’s email or not at all.

I’m glad to hear Craig & I are not the only ones who don’t feel the need to be assessable by phone 24/7.
It’s so true - those phone interruptions can totally derail the rhythm & flow while working on a project!
I’ll tell you though … we still get looks like we’re aliens or something!

Wow, a lot of you hate the phone. Let’s start a movement to let everyone know it’s okay to be hatin’!

Heather- ugh, I had to delete my Myspace account for that reason. I was spending so much time checking my account and cyberstalking, I could not get any work done! I liked your recent post about god and Country, by the way!

The moose is back! Hi George. I actually got a Mocha this morning. And look at the stock market- connection maybe :))

Thank you jodapoet for helping me feel less like an antisocial freak! Now, can you explain it to my father?

Gem, I love the coffee press- it is easy and comparable in taste, and much cheaper. I still give in to SBux once in a while though! As for IM, I don’t even turn it on anymore.

Hey iowahippiechick- remember when people weren’t accessible constantly? What happened to those days???
